It is natural that you will want to lavish the new baby that you have been expecting for many months, with all kinds of cute and cuddly gifts, to welcome your baby home. You literally have an endless selection available to you, in a wide variety of stores. There are cute and cuddly stuffed animals, and of course you just have to get them their very own baby pillow to put in the baby bed with them. You are assuming it is ok to buy several of these items, because they are being sold in many of the stores you have been shopping in, right? Unfortunately, this is not the case. Putting a baby pillow in with your newborn, is not ok, and it could even cause harm or death if you chose to do so. It does not matter if your adorable baby sleeps in his or her very own baby bed or in a bassinet, putting any type of pillow or other item such as a furry little stuffed animal can actually be deadly.
A variety of things are used in the making of these pillows, and any one of them could be harmful for your baby. It is no secret that all newborn babies have very sensitive skin. Your newborns skin could become irritated very easily from the various dyes and fabrics that are used to make a baby pillow.
When many parents think of the comfort of their bundle of joy, they are only trying to be helpful when they buy a baby pillow. The best thing that you can do to be helpful to your new baby, is to educate yourself on the variety of safety issues that can mean the difference of life and death when it comes to the well being of your baby. To put it simply, there are far too many risks that outweigh any good that can come from putting a pillow close to your baby until they have reached two years old. Even at two years of age, some toddlers are not ready for a baby pillow. It is advised by many researchers, that until a child reaches the age of two years old, and they have outgrown the need for a baby bed, you should not use pillows.
